JOHN COMER

John moved to Southern California in 1956, where he grew up surfing the beaches of Orange County and hiking the arroyos and hills. He received his first box of oil-paints on his thirteenth birthday, and has spent his life pursuing his passion…painting. His professional career began in 1968 and has been intermingled with sailing/painting voyages to the Caribbean, Central America, Islands of the Pacific and Africa.  “In these times, in which forward-leaning artists have gotten far a field from the landscapes of the 1920’s era, there is something pleasing about a young man who can choose not to follow the ways of the avant-garde, who can succeed in reactivating a vision of the world which is very close to what most people seek in art.” – Paul C. Mills, Retired Director, Santa Barbara Museum of Art
